Our Approach
Our therapists use the Person-Centred approach as the core in their way of working, which is a humanistic approach that puts you at the centre of your own therapy. It encourages you to explore what your struggling with, whether that be anxiety, depression, grief and loss, or even a situation that you want to make sense of. It lets you gain a better understanding of yourself and your relating to others. It can allow you to have more self-acceptance, increases self-esteem, self-worth and balances those negative thoughts and feelings with more positive ones. This is facilitated by your therapist providing the conditions for a safe space of non-judgmental acceptance and empathic understanding which aids in building a relationship of trust that allows you to open up, at your own pace, to what it is that is blocking your potential for healing and growth.
Sometimes it feels difficult to talk about what you are struggling with, you might not be able to find the right words, or you struggle to find a place to start. We can help you in this by using creative art and play exercises to encourage the flow of exploring your experiences and to help you find meaning and understanding in them
Our therapists partake in their own Continuing Professional Development (CPD), by regularly going to workshops, presentations and webinars. Keeping up to date with current ideas and findings within individual issues that people struggle with.
Our therapists attend monthly supervision where we explore anything that comes up for us in sessions that might cause a bit of a block in our own process, or might even be bringing up some of our own experiences within us, and find ways to work through that, so that it does not impact our sessions with you.
Southampton Reflections Counselling endeavours to provide a service that is anti-discriminatory in nature and strives to ensure this commitment is reflected in our therapist's practice.
